CYD: So James, how did you like the shoot today?

JAMES: Oh, um, it was…it was a lot of fun. I had a, I had a blast. I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go cuz this is my first porn shoot, (CYD: Mm hmm.) but um, I had a lot of fun with it. So…

CYD: Did you find the…it awkward to stop and start or was that…?

JAMES: I actually liked that, that there was a stop and start cuz it, you know, because we kinda came into this just winging it, you know? Like, that gave us a minute to like, (CYD laughs) figure out our next move and stuff and you know and if I started feeling kinda’ve um, I don’t know, a little too intense
or something like that gave me like a minute to breathe and shit (CYD: Mm hmm.) and so I liked that. I appreciated the stop and starting, actually. I wasn’t sure how that was going to go, but it was really good. (CYD: Mm hmm.) What about you? What did you think of the shoot?

CYD: Um, I liked it. I thought it was lots of fun. Um, it’s – when I’ve done the CrashPad before, it’s my – I’ve done it with people who been like ultra-organized and they’ve been like, “We’re gonna do this and this and this and this and this and this and this…” and I’m like, “Okay…” and this time it was kinda my turn to be the more organize one and I honestly like, I had all these ideas of things to do but…

JAMES: Cuz I mean, you’ve always bottomed in your other shoots and stuff, right? (CYD: Yeah…) So that was, what did you think about that?

CYD: Um, I really liked it because um, the reason I bottomed in the other shoots was primarily because it was with people I hadn’t had sex with before (JAMES: Yeah…) and I feel like, a little uncomfortable topping people I don’t know very well. (James agreeing throughout) But because we’ve had sex before (JAMES: Yeah…) laughter one or two times, um, I was really into it. I really liked it. (JAMES: Yeah.) How about you, (patting JAMES on the back) Cheerleader, bottom-bitch?

JAMES: I wish, I wish we had thought of the cheerleader thing before hand because I totally would have worn like my little Hooters like booty shorts and stuff and like really dressed up for it but maybe next time, you know? SHINE: When you maneuver around, actually sit on the bed. (CYD: Mm hmm.) Can you come around this way so you don’t bump into – cuz before you were moving around before in this way it looked like you were coming this way…so instead, some around to like, to sit on the bed, to sit in front of him.

CYD: Okay.

SHINE: Whatever you do, do it in that direction, okay?

CYD: Did you find anything challenging today?

JAMES: Um, uh, I guess like one thing that was challenging was, like, when I was tied up and like waiting for everything to go. Like, having it like on my spine, like on the bone, (CYD: Mm hmm.) but it wasn’t that bad and it was pretty brief and yeah, but no I – I didn’t think it was that challenging. So, I don’t know. What about you?

CYD: Um, I think that I’ve gotten used to, like, the porn like way of doing things. Like, staying in the moment but also stopping and starting. I still find it a little bit challenging to like plan ahead and knowing like (JAMES: Yeah…) um not just knowing what I’m gonna do but in what position and if I’m doing it in the wrong position, then sometimes they have to cut things out, or like, (JAMES: Yeah…) yeah…

JAMES: I guess the dialogue part was also like a challenge for me like, “Hmm…”” you know? I feel like a little on the spot, awkward, but it was – it was fine…

CYD: You did good… (deepens voice) “fucking faggot.”

CYD: So, this is your first time doing porn, which is like pretty intimidating, but, like, you did really well. How did it go to your expectations? Was it more difficult or easier than you expected?

JAMES: Yeah, well, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, I had a feeling that I would probably do well with it since it’s like a queer-run production, you know, um, and that, like, my understanding from people I know who have done this before, that it was, you know, a lot more run by the performers, as opposed to, like a scripted type of (CYD: Mm hmm.) deal, so, and it did mostly meet, you know, like, my expectations on that. It was a lot, even more, I would say, um, I guess relaxed or, like made me feel a lot more comfortable than I expected cuz y’know I was a little anxious, like, the day or so before but it was totally great.

JAMES: Why did you want to do the kind of shoot that we did today?

CYD: Um, well, I’ve been wanting to do a shoot with you for a long time. Um, I think we planned it like, months –

JAMES: Yeah, before I even moved to San Francisco.

CYD: Yeah…before he moved to San Francisco and um, although first we were gonna do sailor boys and boy scouts…

JAMES & CYD: …and unicorns and tigers (JAMES and CYD laugh.)

CYD: We had all kinds of, uh, crazy ideas. Um, so I was really looking forward to that and I was also looking forward to doing the shoot with someone that I knew, (JAMES: Yeah…) like, a little better and also, um, I was looking forward to doing a shoot where I – it was more switchy or that I could top some more cuz I’ve been very distressed about not being able to do that, but I will have my revenge. (Laughs.)

JAMES: Got to do some of that today so…

CYD: Love the revenge. (Laughs.)

JAMES: I know, for me, like, I’ve wanted to do porn for a really long time. Um, it’s been like, a goal, and I was hoping to get in, like, a place with, like, my body and stuff where I was, you know, comfortable to do that and, you know, after, like, having to fight really hard to access medical transition stuff in Georgia, like, I’ve kinda felt like I could do anything and I should you know totally pursue other dreams and goals and I’m just really glad that I’m, you know, happy enough with the way I look and stuff to be able to do porn and it feels incredibly validating (CYD: Mm hmm.) and that’s been a really awesome experience for me.

CYD: Yeah, I was kinda um thinking about that as well because I’ve been doing porn for a really long time. (JAMES: Yeah.) Um, like four years. (Laughs.) So, I think it’s – I think it’s really interesting to do porn which is, like, more, um, real in regards to who I am and also to like look at the history of how I’ve looked and you know, continuing medical transition, like what my body will look like in the future (JAMES: Right?) and hopefully I’ll be doing porn then (JAMES: Yeah.) and it’ll be like this nice continuum. JAMES: Yeah, it’s gonna be pretty awesome to look at in a couple years.
