Scarlett: So, was there anything that felt kind of challenging or hard for you during the shoot? Something that you had a little issue with?
Rex: Um … I don’t know, I’m not usually much of a “comfortable taking my clothes off in front of people” person. But I kind of just got caught up in the moment. It worked out really well. I was a little nervous going in, like, “Oh, fuck. I’m gonna be naked. But—or close—and, yeah …
Scarlett: Did you find the pigeons challenging a little bit too? Because that was a little awkward.
Rex: Yeah. The pigeons.
Scarlett: I was like, “Okay. We’ll have a full audience.” <Rex laughs>
Rex: I don’t know, other than that, it was really interesting as far as being able to come all the way here just for this purpose. Kind of have, like, the whole stomach going crazy, but then just completely easing into it. It was a really comfortable setting. And you’re not so bad yourself. Any challenges for you?
Scarlett: Um…I think the biggest one was just like having, again, the things changing, and, like, we haven’t had sex. We’ve only met one time before…
Rex: Yeah.
Scarlett: So it was kind of like really like, I was like, “Well, what if there isn’t chemistry? What if that doesn’t work out?”
Rex: Yeah.
Scarlett: And I think before when we were talking, and I was saying, “Well, is it weird that I’m not nervous?” Like, I felt kind of odd, like should I be having the jitters, or should I be trying to play on things? Scarlett: So, the question on everyone’s mind: why did you want to do porn?
Rex: Um…I don’t know, I…oh, I—fuck, I get nervous…
Scarlett: Because I’m so hot, and this was your opportunity.
Rex: Well, you know. No, it’s definitely something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time, and didn’t really know that I would have a chance at doing it. So, like, when the opportunity came up, it was kind of like, “Yeah, this is something that I definitely really want to do.” I want to be able to show people out there that, like, you know, real sex can be incredibly hot, and can be, you know, communicative, and it can be sexy when, you know, it’s even with someone you’re having sex with someone for the first time. It doesn’t have to be all, you know, fumbling around and being all like, “Oh no, what do I do?” Like, just making sure, like, keeping eye contact, and being like, you know, this is important, to be able to communicate what’s going on with your body, to be able to understand your own body better. And I think that’s probably one of the main reasons why I wanted to do it, because there’s a lot of people out there who don’t know what the fuck is going on with their bodies.
Scarlett: That’s true. And why Pink and White? Why Crash Pad?
Rex: Because Pink and White is awesome! Seriously, like, no, I, um…I’ve seen the original Crash Pad, and just thought that it was absolutely amazing just as far as the idea behind it, the fact that it was so real and so very much about being sex-positive. And that’s, I mean, I wouldn’t want to, you know, film for anybody else with it not being sex-positive. So…
Scarlett: Yep.
Rex: Yep. Why did you want to do porn?
Scarlett: I’m just a porn star deep inside. <Rex laughs> There’s a lot of reasons why I wanted to do porn. I think a lot of it has to do with my sex education background, and doing it in such a different way. Like, I’ve never worked for, like, a giant organization doing anything, I do a lot of blogging, a lot of writing, I go out and give workshops and stuff, and it’s all about teaching people how to communicate with themselves and with their partners. And showing people that good sex, first of all, exists.
Rex: Yeah.
Scarlett: Because I don’t have bad sex anymore; it’s a rule. And that people of all different types can have it. Like, a lot of people would never see someone like me in porn. Like, I’m alternative, I’m disabled, I’m queer and I’m fat.
Rex: Yeah.
Scarlett: You know, and I, that’s all part of my identity, and it’s really awesome for me to be able to, like, be myself and not be like, “Well, here, I need to dye my hair and lose thirty pounds and whatever to fit into this, like, mold of a porn star,” I’m just me, and I’m having sex, and having fun with it, and that’s really good. And you know what? For a really long time, I didn’t realize that real orgasms could be as loud as mine were. I thought I was, like, the only one, because a lot of main stream porn, people are either faking it or people are having orgasms that are more quiet, because they want to be toned down. And I’m, like, fall off the bed, crazy orgasm girl. And, like, it wasn’t until I was seeing more like the independent, sex-positive and a lot of queer porn where female-bodied people really felt accepted to be themselves, to scream, or to not take off their clothes…

Scarlett: And to have the best sex. So that’s why I was like, “I want to be part of that. I want to ride that wave.”
Rex: Yeah, well, it is a lot too with the fact that I normally wouldn’t have thought of being in porn at all because of the fact that, like, I’ve had in the past some issues with my body being, like, you know, like, you know, “I’m not skinny enough to ever be a porn star. That’s stupid.” You know, like, but at the same time, being given that chance with a group of people who are so positive with what your body looks like and being like, “No, that’s just you. Own it, be sexy.” And that’s one of the main reasons that I wanted to do it, was because other people need to know that it doesn’t matter how much chub you’ve got going on. You’re still fucking hot.

Scarlett: I’d say I really like Pink and White for a variety of reasons. I think first of all, just like the fact that it’s different. Like, even if it wasn’t exactly what it is—which is amazing—it’s different, it’s not the same thing, and they are interested in going new directions, and they, like, their model form is amazing; it has pronoun preference on there.
Rex: Right.
Scarlett: Which, for me, having done so much with gender theory and so much with trans rights, it’s so important. And that, like, you can identify as anything you want. I’m like, “Well, I’m a femme-bratty-top-bottom-switch-fuck-me-any-way-you-want,” you know, you can be…it is what it is, and you can be who you are. I actually went to Pornotopia, which is this film festival, and I, you know, I had seen some Pink and White stuff, and I actually interviewed Shawn for an article I was writing, and, you know, I was like, “Yeah, whatever, they’re really cool and stuff.” Then I saw Crash Pad, and I was, like, “Pick me!” I actually went home that night and I got online and was like, “Um, can you hire me as a model now, please.” And you know, now that I’ve seen stuff, you know, I’ve seen a lot of their other things and Champion just came out, and for a company to do a feature length film that’s super sex-positive, that’s queer friendly, that shows people in all these empowering lights, I was just, like, “That’s what I want to be a part of.”
Rex: Yeah, definitely, it’s like you get to be part of, you know, it’s almost like there’s a specific type of movement.
Scarlett: Or revolution.
Rex: Exactly. And, like, it’s amazing because then other people can see it and be like, “Oh, okay, I’m not weird for wanting to have sex that way or not, like, I don’t feel uncomfortable with myself around that type of sex because other people are having it. And it’s really hot for them to do it, so me to.
Scarlett: Yeah.

Scarlett: You know, I was really unsure of this last week because my real life partner kind of backed out at the last minute, and something that I liked about Pink and White and this whole ideas is that you can bring your real life partner and kind of have some of those connections, and so I…I was really nervous because that was one of the reasons why I wanted to do it. And it turned out so great. Like, I’m really happy that I got to try something different, to try something new, and I really like this whole porn shoot thing. It’s fun, and I’m really awkward in general, and so I’m awkward during sex normally, and I talk, and I’m like a little chatter box, and I’m like, “B-dhhh-dhhh-dhhh-dhhh-dhhh…” and people are like, “Please, can I just fuck you? Can we finish this?” And so here, it was okay, because we’d be on hold, and I would be like, “I’m naked and just laying here and blah-blah-blah-blah-blah,” and then we’d be like, “Okay, back to it.” So I could, like, get out all my weird quirks as I… <Rex laughs> like, during the pause, which was really nice.
