Alarm clock sounds. Two clicks as the fingers touch the trackpad of the laptop.
DIRECTOR (SHINE LOUISE HOUSTON): Alright, and, action!
DIRECTOR: … would you get a bit closer so I can see the hands and stuff? I’m gonna move over this way to get the door
FLACO: Entrance again, or…?
DIRECTOR: Yes, entrance one more time.
SHADOW: Damn! More kissing?! (laughter)
DIRECTOR: Tough job, but… (more laughter)
DIRECTOR: so, whoever wants to go first, ask the question “what did you enjoy about today?”
FLACO: do you wanna go first?
SHADOW: um, sure, I’ll go first. Um, well, I liked meeting you and getting to know you… a little bit (laughter) getting to come to a different space and play in swell company. I really like that every time I do a scene I find out something about the world and a little bit about myself and, um, you know, that, it’s, it’s a chance to find truth as far as I’m concerned, so, um, I got to find out a little bit more truth today, so that’s what I liked. What did you like?
FLACO: errm, I always think this question is, like, ohh, I liked everything! (laughs) erm, I like sex, and hot people, and you’re hot, so that, that was my favourite.
SHADOW: (panting) hold?
FLACO: yes
SHADOW: I need a little lube.
SHADOW: thank you.
FLACO: any day. (murmuring)
FLACO: thanks!
FLACO: is there anything you’d like to request?
SHADOW: mmmm, no, I think you’re in control of the situation.
FLACO: okay!
SHADOW: okay.
DIRECTOR: so, the next question would be what did you find challenging about the shoot today?
FLACO: okay.
SHADOW: yeah, okay, I think I got to a certain place where I realised, like, simultaneously because we were talking earlier, like we have the same kind of cock or whatever (laughter) and I realised that I don’t know how other bodies feel to the, like, on my body it’s not the right cock for me to be seen with, I actually like a different kind, so, erm, it was a moment but you see a girl with it, and you know, if it would have not been, if it would have really been not working for me, I would’ve called a time out, but y’know, it was okay, just that little moment of hmm, my truth for now, whatever time it is on whatever day it is is that this isn’t quite what my body wants right now so.
FLACO: I found that, well, we just met right before the shoot, so that was a little bit challenging to like, bridge the gap between a total stranger to doing something really really intimate, but, yeah, it was also just a moment for me, you know, I just kinda, just wanted to please you, so that was important for me to do that.
SHADOW: well done
(laughter)
FLACO: you okay?
SHADOW: yeah!
FLACO: we’ll go slow, sorry.
SHADOW: okay
SHADOW: yes, please, that would be swell. Thank you … what are these people still doing here? (laughter)
FLACO: so, why did you do porn?
SHADOW: I mean, again, I think… you know, we never know what’s gonna happen tomorrow, and it’s something I’ve been curious about for a long time, and opportunities availed themselves, you know, to me, and I feel like, I dunno, I just feel like it’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now, in addition to everything else that I’m supposed to be doing, you know, again it’s that piece about truth, it’s about reclaiming beauty, reclaiming spaces in which we can be beautiful or handsome or whatever, you know, whatever works for you and, erm, I just, erm, I guess I’m tired of having shoved down my mouth, forgive the pun, you know somebody else’s idea of whatever it is what I’m supposed to be doing with myself or my life or my day or my afternoon or my body or other, you know, I don’t know, or, you know, butches aren’t supposed to get fucked or whatever it is, like, I’m tired of all that, so I just, I wanted to do something different, and I had a chance to, so I did, ‘cos I wanted to.
FLACO: well, thank you! You make me feel honoured. Erm, speaking of quoting stereotypical gay people, I do it for what Ani di Franco says, the joy it brings (laughter)
SHADOW: fuck yeah!
FLACO: it’s so important, like I’ve said before, to just, like, us as trans* genderfucks to, erm, express ourselves sexually in every way that we can, and there’s, there’s very little media justice. We don’t have a whole lotta access to making our own stories and I do believe that Shine’s vision of what the Crash Pad is and the space that it holds to be really really important for us, you know, erm, so I kinda feel like Shine is, like, a Popeye, and has like a space for us to be ourselves so it’s always good to be here.
(laughter)
FLACO: I think I just blushed! SHADOW: wait, no, I’m sorry, never mind
DIRECTOR: (mumble) just found some blushing (laughter) wait, what’s this, that’s not blushing (laughter)
FLACO: why, should I be like, “yeah, people, flirt” (laughter)
DIRECTOR: that was awesome, dude.
SHADOW: okay, all the secrets we would like you to know. We are capable of blushing, and tanning, and burning, okay. Myths dispelled. We’re gonna take care of that right now.
SHADOW: if there’s forces in your life that are trying to tell you, not in a helpful way, who you should be, who you should act, what something is, what butch is, what queer is, what fucking is, you know, and you disagree, just follow your gut, don’t take anybody’s crap about who you are or how to act, because you’ll live longer, you’ll enjoy life a lot more if you just be yourself. That’s what I think.
FLACO: that’s pretty insightful. Erm, what what what what, erm, I dunno, there’s a lot of stuff going on right now and I feel all this shame around what’s going on politically in this country, so I’m really grateful to be in this space that’s supportive of like, this is a way to have one more day, because if all we have is one more day, then this was a good day.
