Shine Louise Houston: Um, the cameras are rolling
Bear: Mhmm
Houston: so one of you is going to give a “clap” in front of your face to sync the cameras.
CLAP
Shine: Excellent. Now, one of you is going to ask the other, “How did you enjoy the shoot today?”
Bear: How did you enjoy during the shoot today, Tree?
Tree: It was really great, yeah. The space feels really comfy and you sort of forget where you are. Felt really good to be here, doing things with you and having a special moment. How did you enjoy the shoot?
Bear: Um, a lot of the same. It was really accommodating and it was cold and now it’s not and there’s plenty of warmth now and I really like how bright the space is. I like the… uh I really enjoy the way the ceiling looks. I don’t know, you know, you’re lying on a bed. So, you’re like, looking up a lot. I like this wooden lofty rafter vibe… I don’t know. I’ve always liked this space. So yeah. It was good. It was really good.
Shine Louise Houston: Okay, the next question to ask each other is “What was challenging about the shoot?”
Tree: What was challenging about this shoot?
Bear: Um, it was a little cold. And plus, it was also like we’ve just been inside a lot. Just at home in our walls. And so it’s like –
Tree: – Oh wow, we’re not in our bed, that we’re so familiar with.
Bear: – yeah, yeah yeah. It was different. which is challenging, not in the worst — that’s not a bad challenge, to say. Just like a …it was like getting comfortable in a different space… …that was familiar. It just we’ve been in the same space so much. What about you? What was challenging for you?
Tree: Well, I guess for me I’m really used to having my shower and my toys at home and I really like anal that’s a big part of my typical, like sex. I actually don’t usually use the vibrator very much. But we did today because it was a little more difficult to do anal today and the vibrator was really nice. And, yeah. I’m really going to try to get you to explore it more –
Bear: – Yeah
Tree: – But like gently… I’m glad about that.
WALKIE TALKIE STATIC
LAUGHTER FROM OTHER ROOM
Bear: You hear Shine just crack up.
Shine Louise Houston: So the next question is “What are your safer sex practices, and why?”
Tree: Well, what are your safer sex practices and why?
Bear: Well, you know, normally like with us, we do things just us together and we don’t do things with other folks without protection. And so we’re our only two people that were fluid-bonded with. So that’s a big thing. But even then, you know, nowadays
Tree: – nowadays
Bear: – I mean, quarantine has made sex the safest cause you’re not fucking anybody else. So, that has been a big thing. But normally, we’re only fluid-bonded with each other. And we definitely test and do safer sex practices just still out of habit like, get tested. Even now. Kind of a thing. It’s just like, yeah. It’s still important. What about you?
Tree: Probably similar, but yeah… Yeah, you know. We live together, so everything that you said. Yeah. So it’s the same. The same, yeah. Because we live together. I mean, I think the next question is about quarantine.
Bear: It’s definitely made…it’s sort of forced safer sex upon us. That part, yeah. Yeah. It’s taken on a whole new meaning.
Shine: The next question to ask is “If you’ve done porn before, why do you continue to do porn?”
Tree: Right, that’s it. Yeah okay.
Bear: You’ve done porn before, why do you continue to do porn?
Tree: Well, the only other porn shoot I’ve done was here at CrashPad about two or three years ago, our first time.
Bear: Mhmm
Tree: And It was enjoyable, and and low-key and felt like something that we wanted – right when we finished, the first time, we were like, “I would do that again.” Yeah.
Bear: Yeah, literally. In the future, yeah!
Tree: Yeah. What about you?
Bear: Um. Same. I mean, the first time we came here which was what, two or three years ago like to do this I thought immediately, I could do this more often. In this setting, with these people. Like, because I have had experience with porn, prior to this prior to even that one and, where I wasn’t necessarily filming it but I was like the set on hand on set, in L.A. And it was a very different experience when it’s not queer and trans folks, and people who have an understanding on how to treat each other. You know? And there’s like this transparency and space so I always appreciated that when we first did it and I appreciate it now there’s like a clear understanding of how to treat each other and how to take care of each other and each others needs in this space. They always treat us really well here and compensate us well. It’s a really great experience. I know it’s not for everyone but I enjoy it. Also, on a basic level, it’s really nice to know that there’s four cameras around my ass and someone’s just watching me come!
And then now, when we leave here, I’m going to think about the fact that – Oh, what I was telling Tree before we did this, since the last one – Any time I meet a queer person in a space and they look at me a certain way, I’m always like, you saw it, didn’t you? So yeah, I actually really enjoy that too. Because I know that everybody’s not seeing it but the few people that are, it’s always like ‘MmmHhmmm!’ You’ve seen the video, haven’t you. So yeah, I don’t know, I kind of like that. Yeah.
Shine: Next question is “What has been the best thing about quarantine?”
Bear: What has been the best thing about quarantine? Okay. That’s a challenge. Go for it. I wanna see.
Tree: Um. I think there’s kind of two for me. One is, just having a lot of time at home, to like focus on myself and our relationship and on creating a little home unit that feels really safe and comfortable and it’s also been an excuse to spend a lot of time outside like in the woods doing hikes alone and stuff like that or with one other person um, and exploring the area where we live, which is really beautiful. What’s your…. what’s been the best thing about this… period for you?
Bear: Well, I got pretty sick. And also had a car accident, at the top of the year that I almost died from and then got sick after that, on top of that so, it’s been tough. It’s been a tough..2020 was really tough for me, unfortunately. Um. But I guess the best thing I could say is we worked really hard to get into the home that we’re in right now and it’s been really nice honestly, everybody. We’ve all been kind of quarantined, buying shit for home to make home a space that’s comfy kind of like what you were saying we’ve worked really hard and I think our space. And Queso, our kitty, it’s a really nice, we’ve created a home unit. I feel like our life before was always so ‘don’t be at the house’ as much as possible and then now, it’s like you kind of have to be, so you’re learning to make your space more your’s.
And I think honestly cause, you know, from anything bad, there’s still something interesting and good that can come from it and it’s that our space when we get home it’s like, ah… Home. This is, I got my this, and my cat, and my rowing machine…got a tv and my big comfy couch and the ottoman… all the things, all the things to make the space comfortable. And grilling! So much grilling. We’ve been grilling and cooking. So many tasty things. It’s funny cause we don’t even like to eat out cause we can cook it that well and not even have to spend money
Tree: Yeah, it’s definitely been a motivation.
Bear: Quarantine’s made us both into chefs, pretty much. Yeah, it’s like quarantine chefs. #QuarantineChefs
Tree: Yeah, and our kitty is so spoiled now.
Bear: Cause we’re just home all the time she demands constant attention.
Tree: Constant attention.
Bear: Can’t leave him alone now. He was never like that before. And now he’s like, I get you all the time. So what’s the problem. Why aren’t you petting me right now. So yeah. That’s nice.
Shine: And, closing statements. Is there anything that you’d like to say that the previous questions didn’t address? Today? Porn? Fucking? Anything…
Bear: I hope that with the new year comes more opportunities for queer porn. I don’t know. Every time we leave here, I’m like, man I wanna do that more. But I’m always am hesitant because it’s about finding people you can work with and spaces you can work with that feel comfortable. And so that’s always been the challenge. And so I hope more opportunities like that come along. Doing porn here just reframed – the first time we did it – it reframed, it made me ask a lot of questions about what porn is for me, and what it looks like, and what “porn” looks like verses what you grew up with, verses what this is –
Tree: – the sort of things you seek out at home when you want to watch something
Bear: Right, yeah. Yeah. Watching stuff on CrashPad has always been amazing because it’s like, these are bodies that are not so normative or a spectrum, of what a body can look like and I like that. It made me look and seek out other types of things like this, like other ethical queer porn things like this.
