CHELSEA: Did you have any challenges in this shoot?

EDEN: (breathes deeply) I thought it was a pretty ideal day in terms of getting to shoot with who I wanted—

EDEN: — getting to wear what I wanted, getting to play how I wanted.

CHELSEA: Yeah.

EDEN: I think maybe it was– the hardest part was getting up at 7am.

CHELSEA: Totally, yeah (Eden laughs). Totally, getting up and being like “okay, I’m getting going, I’m gonna shoot porn in a few yours, yeah.”

EDEN: How about you?

CHELSEA: Yeah, that’s always kind of a difficulty with early morning stuff. I’ve had another shoot really recently that was the same deal, but…

EDEN: That’s nice to be in the Bay Area where there’s no crazy traffic.

CHELSEA: Yeah, yeah.

EDEN: We both managed to make it on time.

CHELSEA: Yeah, we did.

EDEN: So, um, what are your safer sex practices, and why do you choose those?

CHELSEA: Um, well, being in the industry, if you get anything, you’re out of work for a while, so that’s the most immediate risk on top of bodily health.

EDEN: Yeah.

CHELSEA: So, um, I get tested at least once a month, sometimes every two weeks. Um, which feels so weird for people outside of porn—

EDEN: Yeah.

CHELSEA: — Because you talk to someone and they’re like “oh yeah, I got tested six months ago, and you’re like (makes a face, Eden nods). I don’t know, I’m always thrown back and like, really?

EDEN: Yeah. Yeah.

CHELSEA: But I use condoms, gloves, dental dams sometimes. Um, yeah, all that stuff. And if we use condoms today, we – did we use gloves?

(EDEN shakes her head)

CHELSEA: Oh, okay.

EDEN: I like – I like them, though.

CHELSEA: Yeah.

EDEN: Um, safer sex practices for me—also being in the adult industry, and being polyamorous, I find that there’s a lot of negotiation and boundary setting that I have to place, um, with my real-life partners.

Beyond getting tested regularly, if I have any partners outside of the adult industry, I make sure that I’m only fluid bonded to one person at a time, and if I have other poly relationships, there has to be a lot of boundaries made about fluid bonding, fluid sharing, barriers, protection, and an open dialogue as to what everybody’s okay with in terms of intimacy.

CHELSEA: Mhm. Totally.

EDEN: ‘Cause I kind of have to have an extra-strong standard, and having partners who are compassionate and aware of those things is another challenge on top of that, so, there is always a lot of dialogue, continued dialogue to be sure, but—

CHELSEA: It’s important.

EDEN: I don’t mind it, it’s a privilege.

CHELSEA: Yeah.

CHELSEA: No. Nor yours.

EDEN: No. Why do you continue to shoot films like this?

CHELSEA: Um, I think the only way to make, like, difference in porn is to make better porn, so that’s kind of where it all stems from, so. And as, like, performing, like, having enjoyable sex in porn.

EDEN: Absolutely.

CHELSEA: Why not? And it pays, like, most of my rent, so it’s great.

EDEN: — your first shoot was here. This is my second um, real-life partner shoot that I’ve had, so I feel like this is a very full circle moment for me. But, in being in this industry for so long, you get to a point where you sacrifice a lot, and you want to pick and choose your work.

EDEN: So I’ve found that that’s true not because I have so much work being thrown at me I have to turn all this work down, but I really only try to perform when I’m doing something that I really enjoy. And I’ve done so many different kinds of porn that I really just want to make porn for women now.

CHELSEA: Yeah.

EDEN: Something that turns women on, something that stimulates and captures their attention and then in turn gets them off. And I think it’s really important to change that status quo of porn not always just being for straight men—

CHELSEA: Yeah

EDEN: — by becoming the new status quo yourself.
