Behind the Scenes 212: Lyric Seal and Vai
(Laughter and chatting)
Crew: Ready, turn it, go ahead, Thank you.
(Laughter, deep breathing)
Lyric Seal: Side Pony! Oh this, this, I like this, cause I feel very like, i don’t know, like a man who can turn into a horse.
Vai: Hmmm
Lyric Seal: What are those called?
Vai: A sentar-
Lyric Seal: like a frock?
Vai: No. . .
Lyric Seal: like a Forelock?
Vai: Yes
Lyric Seal: When it’s in front like a, it flops, like a
(Laughter)
Lyric Seal: I’m really into that, should we connect that part up?
Vai: Yeah. . .
Lyric Seal: Whoa, that, yeah, hmmm!
[Cut to Interview 2:00]
Lyric Seal: What did you enjoy about the shot today? Or how did you enjoy the shot today, I’m assuming you enjoyed, haha.
[Both laugh]
Vai: I enjoyed everything about the shot. I enjoyed it so much. I, I have really been looking forward to playing with you and shooting like-
Lyric Seal: Me too
Vai: So much, umm, yeah, it’s like I’ve been playing with you in my mind for the past couple weeks and gathering ideas and you know, gathering plans, just making, crafting little things with this intention.
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: And I even, umm, so there’s been a lot of build up, and I was actually wanting to knit a harness for us, like a body harness, so I was spinning all this wool (Lyric Seal: Wow), and like I haven’t done porn in a while so i’m like ooo, kinda feeling insecure and nervous and I put on all this porn and was like spinning, yarn and watching porn, it was really amaz-
Lyric Seal: (Laughter) I love that!
Vai: Yeah, so i really enjoyed that, but the yarn didn’t make it into the shoot. But, umm, yeah there’s so much creative build up and especially because you know we’ve met briefly and had a few letters –
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: – and you know, I’m drawn to you –
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: –
and I respect you and I, you inspire me and I don’t know you (Laughter), and I’m nervous and there’s been so much build up –
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: – And umm, and yeah, definitely once you got here and we started talking and connecting I, I felt more at ease-
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: And, was able to channel the nervousness into just excitement –
Lyric Seal: Yeah.
Vai: – and umm, and every, yeah everything, I, I loved playing with you, with all these/different things, I loved all of us playing together.
Lyric Seal: Yeah
Vai: and umm, I just really got in my body.
Lyric Seal: (clears throat) I feel like grounding/ was a big part of our shoot/ as well. So it felt like it was able to incorporate like any anxiety and energy was like breathing through it and yelling through it.
Vai: Yeah
Lyric Seal: I’ve wanted to shoot with you for like years. Like you’re saying weeks and I was like and years build up to it (Laughter).
Vai: Yeah, totally, yeah, we were going to shoot years ago, I think.
Lyric Seal: Yeah, 2012
Vai: Yeah
Lyric Seal: Whaa
Vai: Yeah, I really love you cumming, I mean it’s not all about cumming, but I loooved you cumming, i, it was so, and i felt like i was cummng, i mean that was a lot of what I’ve been playing with in my mind, in this build up, is like us being really connected. And not just one doing something to the other-
Lyric Seal: Right
Vai: But, doing these things to ourselves. and, yeah-
Lyric Seal: It felt, yeah, very mutually like supportive and opening. I really liked being eye level here. That was really really sexy. It was great (laughter).
Vai: So many things.
Lyric Seal: Yeah, I really liked the shoot. Yeah.
Vai: Yeah. . .
[Jump to shoot 5:50]
(Groaning)
Crew: The whole top sheet, we could take the whole top sheet, and roll ???
Lyric Seal: Should we do that?
Crew: Like is it going to still sting?
Vai: No, No, I believe . .
Lyric Seal: You could even brush my back like that, and you can hit me with things, but I don’t want, I don’t want to bathe in the nettles or like (Laughter)
Vai: Yeah, very exciting! It really. . .
Lyric Seal: whoooo, that looked really exciting, it did. Hmm, I have, I have gloves. . .
Crew: Chuck it bucket
Lyric Seal: Chuck it bucket?
Crew: Right under your feet by the bed Vai. There’s a white bucket under the bed. There should be.
[jump to interview 6:45 ]
Vai: Was there anything challenging about this shoot for you?
Lyric Seal: Umm, I feel like what, what was challenging, was more like what I built up about how, how it could not be what I wanted it to be, or be what we wanted it to be,
Vai: Yeah
Lyric Seal: umm particularly because umm, I was also doing a kind of like a healing ritual for myself, umm and with, with you, with your like guiding also and, and uh, you know, I don’t know, I was like worried that there could be ways that things would feel or look too like insular, that like it wouldn’t translate umm on camera or that we wouldn’t do all of the the things that we wanted to do, or that, Yeah, I don’t know, I think like I have a split brain between like what I feel moved to do and also being like blocking, choreography, like does it look cool you know, and, and stuff, and are you entertained, umm and so, I got out of my head a lot once were doing it, cause it just yeah, it just felt really good and it’s nice to remember that, yeah, that I’m like a big sensation person so that if those things are happening, other stuff feels less difficult, so it was a good lesson for me to start with that. But yeah, It was like definitely emotionally challenging it some ways, but I felt very safe. Was there anything challenging for you about the shoot today?
Vai: Yes, the, the anxiety build up stuff, and I think it’s like control issues, you know, I don’t, we haven’t played together before, so what’s this, you know, just like fear, insecurities and all of that was challenging, but I welcome (Laughter) and umm, and umm, yeah, just the challenge of really allowing ourselves that time to in the beginning of when we started filming, like I knew that i wanted that and we didn’t need to get right into fucking right away. I knew we didn’t have to, there’s not pressure, and i’m so grateful for that, you know, thank you crash pad (laughter), but I still yeah, in my head, like, ugh, is, you know, I know this what we need and want, it it acceptable, so. Umm, and yeah, I mean stuff, yeah, that’s it, that’s all.
[Jump to shoot 10:04]
Vai: Ahh, the nettles (laughter), oo, it’s all a fire back here
Lyric Seal: Oh my god!
Vai: It’s so good, huuuh, huuh, yes, ooo, that feels good, thank you. Oo,it’s so good. Would you put. . . ooof
(Lyric puts on the condom)
Lyric Seal: oh my gosh you may have to help me, you’re so big (laughter, moans) actually, okay, yeah, there we go.
[Jump to interview —]
Vai: What are your safe sex practices and why?
Lyric Seal: Umm, right my umm partner and I are fluid bonded, so I use various barriers of all kinds when having umm sex with other people and i don’t use barriers with him. And umm my reasons are that it feels good to be connected to my partner in that way and that I also don’t think that it takes anything away when i’m playing with other people to use barriers and barriers are fun to like play with and experiment with and umm and also they keep you protected from some things, so that’s really good (laughter), yeah, and I felt like to, i don’t know, like the barrier usage felt very fluid today, so not the other kind of fluid, but, well, yeah, you know, puns, porn puns.
Vai: Totally
What are your safer sex practices and why?
Well, they’re pretty much the same as you, I’m in a committed, open relationship, and my partner and I are fluid bonded and umm, we, yeah use barriers with other people umm and I, I love the creative challenge of it, I mean of course there’s gloves and everything, but there’s also so, it’s just so fun to take it as challenge, a creative inspiration and do things differently.
We didn’t get to use the leaf as a dental dam (laughter)
I know
Next time
Umm, yeah, i always fumble on that question, but it’s okay.
[Jump to shoot–]
(Moaning)
Vai: Yeah, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you’re so fucking beau, fuck you
Lyric Seal: Ahh, ahh
Vai: Fuck you, ahhhhh, fuck, damn, what the fuck, you’re so good
(moaning, groaning)
Vai: FUUCK
(deep breathing)
[Jump to interview-]
Vai: Why do you continue to do porn?
Lyric Seal: Umm, yeah, actually, I mean like I feel like I’ve answered this question with like immediate enthusiasm in the past, like why wouldn’t I? But I have had like a few moments in the past year or so of like self doubt or feeling very vulnerable and you know wanting to focus on other kinds of art and art that doesn’t expose me as much or feeling discouraged because of like ways my body is not like sought after by like mainstream porn contexts, etc, you know, although I also don’t really put it out there on that level either because I’m like I’m going to be met like this and i just feel anxious about the rejection, you know, or possibility of the rejection and so why i keep doing it, umm is because I genuinely love it and because it does really feel like and artistic practice to me, that I am building a repertoire and a like vocabulary and like fluency in. Umm It really feels like dance to me and really feels like physical theatre, umm I learn things every time that I shoot with someone, umm even when I am shooting by myself, umm, it just feels like a very safe but also generative like lab in which, and like lab in a sciencey way but also a lab in dancey way, where it’s like okay we are going to experiment with these things and we have these bodies and we don’t know if they will work or what will happen. Maybe we are going to discover something completely new, you know, and even though I like to like play with people not in front of camera and lights, i feel like at this moment in my life i’m not playing with other people as much because umm i do just really like the container that umm porn gives me, you know, umm outside of my partnership, so i love, i love it, and I like attention and I like to play and I like to cum and yeah, I love it. Why do you continue to do porn?
Vai: Well ,umm, I, don’t do porn a whole lot these days, I’m mostly up in the woods with my goats and like-
Lyric Seal: Like kids
Vai: Yeah, and I love coming down to the bay, and shooting with crashpad, I mean, it’s so fun and they’re so supportive, and I just, it’s like, I just really like everybody here. It’s a really nice, “It’s nice” (laughter) umm, Shine’s really hot (laughter) Shine touched my arm when I put the mic on, it was really exciting. Umm, yeah, everyone’s always really hot and sweet and fun.
Lyric Seal: Hot and sweet!
Vai: It umm, okay, (laughter) umm, seriously-
Lyric seal: It’s family here, I like it.
Vai: yeah, I don’t know what to say, I’m embarrassed.
Lyric Seal: No, don’t be embarrassed. You said it, you said it.
Vai: It’s okay, it’s okay, but, umm, I really appreciate this work and this particular like crashpad, pink and white. I really like working for them and the amazing people I get to shoot with, I mean how amazing that we are getting paid to play with each other. Thank you everyone. And it is umm, even when my partner and I came to shoot, you know, it, it like enlivened all this creative energy with us and we’re like oh you know this is going to be for other people and we want it to look interesting or you know, and we like know how we like to fuck each other, or play with each other at home, and you know of course we’re we do creative things, but not all the time (laughter), so you know, it’s just, you’re not doing it for other people, umm, so knowing that there’s an audience it’s a good motivation to step it up a notch.
Lyric Seal: I know, yeah, I get that, I think I ???, I like that fodder for it and then it that carries me also into sex with my partner and sex with myself and things I can imagine for you know other sexual scenarios, so, i agree, i feel the same way. Yeah, yeah?
Vai: Thanks
