Bambi: How did you enjoy the shoot?
Tomie: I had a really great time.
Bambi: Yeah
Tomie: It actually felt really natural. I’ve done a lot of scenes that felt natural, but this one’s up there.
Bambi: No, no, me too!
Tomie: At first I was really nervous, and also it was –
Bambi: Why were you nervous?
Tomie: Well, cause you’re really beautiful! But also, but also because, you know, because I’ve never done a scene where I was purely topping. I’m pretty sure. Yeah, yeah.
Bambi: And for me, it’s the opposite. But I think that’s what I really enjoyed, too, was being such a power bottom, because I’m still trying to be a bratty bottom…
Tomie: – I feel like that worked out for us!
Bambi: Yeah. I think it helped bring competence.
Tomie: – It did. Because it was also new for you, yeah…
Tomie: You would kind of take the lead a little bit, but you were still bottomy. It was hot.
Bambi: Yeah, flip me over.
LAUGHS
Bambi: We’d be so soft about it too. We’d be like ‘boop’
Tomie: I feel that even in my personal life, whenever I’m a top, I was totally a service top. Like I wasn’t a dom-my person, I’d just be like, “I really want to make you come!” You know?
Bambi: It’s really cute. I feel like the challenge, though, is our nose rings!
Tomie: Oh my god, that was so funny!
Bambi: It kept hooking on to each other. I’ve had times with my loved one, where I accidentally ripped her nose ring out. So I was just worried about you the whole time. I was just like (inhales) being very conscious of face placement.
Tomie: Because we would make out passionately so I forgot about the nose ring thing
Bambi: Yeah. And it would get hooked, and I’d be like…god….Well, even hair stuff, too. I feel like it’s one of those things where I’m being present with you, and then like reminding myself about angles.
Bambi: Both of us, our hair just meshing into one.
Tomie: Compared to the other scenes I’ve done – because most of the porn I’ve made is definitely for straight men – in that kind of porn I’m so self-conscious, where I have to make sure I’m always arching my back and making a pretty orgasm face and stuff, but I did not care about any of that in this scene and it made it so much more fun.
Bambi: I feel like that’s what’s been really nice too… Being able to have dynamics or scene dynamics with people where this really feels like something for both of us in the moment, too.
Tomie: Yeah!
Bambi: Which I think sometimes… You know, we were both talking about how we got into doing porn and why we do it, and I think to me, why I enjoyed doing it is thinking about things that I feel like for me as a queer person I want other people to experience, and meeting other people where they’re at. You know?
Tomie: Yeah
Bambi: Verses, for both of us with stripping experience, it sometimes can be more performative.
Tomie: Especially getting into porn primarily to make money, which means primarily making porn for the straight male gaze. It’s just really nice to be at this point now where I can do stuff like this and I don’t even have to…I have the resources and the time now to do CrashPad and I’m not even worried about the money or anything or traveling. I just wanted to do it. Because I like CrashPad. And I like queer porn.
Bambi: Same.
Tomie: So if you’ve done porn before, why do you continue to do it?
Bambi: I know we talked about how we were doing studio-based scene work rather than creating with other DIY content makers. For me, the reason why, in terms of working with studios before and during more scene porn stuff and continuing it is that I really enjoy how I can have time to be intentional with the people that I am working with. Also for myself is a trans person that has many different types of presentations, including me taking more of a like, I’m going to be a little bratty bottom this time… I think that normally being very switchy in nature I really love – my enjoyment in porn is how it doesn’t feel like doing fantasies for other people, but more so being able to explore so many different types of intimate dynamics of people in a very like… this felt like such a wholesome environment, working together.
Tomie: It’s easy.
Bambi: And so that’s my favorite.
Tomie: It’s easy, relaxed. I feel that, for sure.
Tomie: I definitely feel like so much of my experiences doing porn for the male gaze. I feel boxed in as an Asian woman and… I don’t know. This was really nice. To be able to explore something I don’t normally get to do and not have to fit a fetish or a stereotype especially because we’re both… we’re working with another Korean person!
Bambi: Yeah, oh no totally
Tomie: Another Korean lesbian? I’m like…
Bambi: No, exactly!
Tomie: Oh my god!
LAUGHS
Bambi: That’s why I was joking about my Handmaiden tattoo. This is just us right?! Our first time ever working together, doing photo stuff was of you kissing my ass! And the tattoo.
Tomie: Yeah!
Bambi: That’s something that’s really important to me, is that I feel very empowered through the work that I’m doing. That’s what keeps bringing me back to making really lovely scenes like this with people. I feel very ‘in my body’ and very present. I’ve definitely done some work in the past where it’s been such a dissociation from my body.
Tomie: Yeah. That’s really cool. I think that’s a reason why I want to continue in porn, because I haven’t even gotten to explore the stuff that I really want to do, like this. Cuz I started out, you know, with the incentive to make money and now I don’t…That’s not as important to me anymore. So, yeah.
Tomie: So, what are your safer sex practices, and why?
Bambi: Always using barriers with toys. Or even too, always boiling my straps. Which I think for some people, sometimes it’s easy to forget.
Tomie: Yeah…
Bambi: It’s nice when we use barriers on vibrators and things like that because that’s often something forgotten and even outside of worrying about getting a thing – Oh my gosh, for me, with being on hormones. I’m so prone to UTIs all the time, just because of being on testosterone, which I’ve been on for almost 10 years now. It’s so important for me that I’m going to pee after this interview. I’m going to pee afterwards.
Tomie: Yes, that’s mine too. For both of us. A safer sex practice, pee after sex.
Bambi: Yeah… my friend… this weekend, forgot. And we were just talking about it. It’s this thing, where the next day you really hate yourself. When this is so easy for me to do.
Tomie: Really!
Bambi: Yeah.
Bambi: What are safe sex practices that you have?
Tomie: I mean, pretty much the same. I try to clean my toys, and use barriers in my personal life. I have to admit though, that this is the first time on camera, the first scene I’ve done, where we used condoms on the toys. Most of the scenes I’ve done with other people, those people don’t do that. So this was informative. I’m walking away with a safer sex practice for doing scenes.
Bambi: You and I communicating, maybe it wasn’t in the dialogue in this scene but in general, cuz we traveled here together and talked about our testing practices and how frequently we go. I notice sometimes in intimate settings, I’m usually the first person to ask the other person… I step back from the situation and think: nobody ever asks me that first. I’m glad I can destigmatize it, where I make people comfortable to check in, cause it can be so casual! It doesn’t have to be anything wrapped in shame.
Tomie: That was one of the things I’ve learned from doing porn, because it’s an industry standard to get tested, and with every person to have Talent Testing results. I was pretty lax about testing before I started doing porn. I learned from that, and also the extent to which we discuss boundaries. I feel like that’s part of safe sex too, is that we really communicated with each other before the scene. And even during the scene, which I have never done before. Like I’ve never, to this extent, communicated with someone during a scene where they’re like “do this” or “don’t do this” on camera. I really like that cuz it makes the scene more natural. I like the idea of porn really just showing what sex should look like. I guess, in terms of communication.
Bambi: The possibilities of it.
Tomie: It can be sexy to discuss those things in the middle of sex.
Bambi: We got coffee before this just to talk about language, and that’s a big thing in safe sex practices for me. In terms of language around the body as a trans person, I was like, in talking about genital stuff, “I’m just a hole.”
LAUGHS
Bambi: That’s really important.
Tomie: I was like, “Got it. For sure.”
Bambi: Yeah. Just making sure, so that way people are present.
Tomie: Maybe this is not super related, but it’s just so funny how we started off the scene with you talking about why you don’t like being touched on your nipples.
Bambi: Because of my top surgery! I’m so afraid of them popping off… cuz I’ve had that happen to friends.
Tomie: That’s real.
Bambi: I’m just like, don’t bite my nipples.
Tomie: I’m so glad that I asked before!
Bambi: Which is so funny because I’m the opposite energy…
LAUGHS
(Ava, off camera) Thank you!
Bambi: Oh yeah: What was your favorite part about quarantine? Even though, obviously, that’s such a tough time…
Tomie: Yeah, I definitely had to think a little bit about that. Cuz there’s a lot of things I didn’t like about quarantine. Obviously.
Tomie: I think the amount of time that I got to spend with my romantic partners was cool. It was a double-edged sword. I mean there was also tension due to how much time. And the codependency.
Bambi: The codependency!
Tomie: My codependent ass also loved it. And another thing, just to be honest: I love how the quarantine kicked off this OnlyFans boom. I was able to make a ton of money. Just being perfectly honest. That was one of my favorite things about quarantine. I was actually able to become financially stable for the first time in my life because of just how many people were consuming online porn and whatever. So as a sex worker, I was able to become financially independent, and it kicked off. Now I’m able to live on my own, and pay my own rent, which I wasn’t able to do before.
Bambi: I relate about being able to be financially dependent during that time. Having time to sit with myself, to reorganize because, as a freelancer and someone who has been doing online sex work for a very long time, from caming stuff to ManyVids… It was something where, when a lot of people had to move to staying indoors, it’s something I was already doing. I also felt like before with a lot of survival based jobs I was always like, “Oh I should apply to this because it’s hiring near my house…” Also having the time to be my own – even though I’m not a “girl” – my own “girl boss” where I could focus on all the different things I’m juggling. I’ve definitely felt the most confident in myself through this time and even intimately, in my transition, I’ve really grown way more into finding things that feel good for myself. We were talking about partnership stuff, having time with partners. I’ve had so much time with my wife and close friends. Interpersonal relationships were strengthened, as well as myself.
Tomie: Yeah, I definitely agree with that. Yeah.
Bambi: Yeah. I’m just…I’m just so happy to see you… When’s the last time we saw each other? When you came to see me strip!
Tomie: Yeah!
Bambi: That was the last time.
Tomie: We didn’t even get to have that much time.
Bambi: I know, because I was running around.
Tomie: Yeah, but it was so cool getting to see you anyway. This felt like a bonding experience.
Bambi: I know, totally. Me foot cuddling after. I wish we had more time!
Tomie: Me traveling across the country to make queer porn.
Bambi: I know! Well we both are always bopping around and so it’s just really nice when we’re able to overlap.
Tomie: Yeah, it’s been really cool getting to know you. And I feel like I know you way better after this.
LAUGHS
Bambi: Me too!
Tomie: Well obviously
Bambi: Yeah!
Tomie: In many ways.
Bambi: Yeah.
Tomie: Awwwww!
LAUGHS
