TRISTAN CRANE is a local Bay Area photographer who’s work you have seen but probably didn’t know who shoot it. Tristan has worked closely with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and other lively folks.
PHYLLIS CHRISTOPHER is the photographic powerhouse responsible for documenting the kinky sex lives of San Francisco lesbians throughout the 1990’s. She worked for On Our Backs Magazine and was the first person I took off my clothes for, occupationally speaking. All you whipper snappers should also check out the work of Honey Lee Cottrell who also was a big part of On Our Backs and lesbian photography.
CATHERINE OPIE is a household name in the world of fine art photography.
Throughout her work she has investigated aspects of community, making portraits of many groups including LGBT community; surfers; and most recently high school football players. She is also interested in how identities are shaped by our surrounding architecture. Opie is currently a professor of Photography at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).[1] Her works are displayed in both museums and galleries internationally. As a gender variant visual artist I access ‘technologies of gender’ in order to amplify rather than erase the hermaphroditic traces of my body. I name myself. A gender abolitionist. A part time gender terrorist. An intentional mutation and intersex by design, (as opposed to diagnosis), in order to distinguish my journey from the thousands of intersex individuals who have had their ‘ambiguous’ bodies mutilated and disfigured in a misguided attempt at ‘normalization’. MIWA TOSAKI is a Japanese photographer who has been committed to documenting queer and lesbian culture in Tokyo. She is an accomplished artists with a Tokyo-based gallery space and a number of published books. Her most recent book is collaboration with writer Yuki Keiser called TOKYO BOIS, which is the first photo book on queer girls, FTMs and bois in Japan.
GOODYN GREEN is a photographer who I met while traveling in Berlin. Goodyn works very closely with Bend Over Magazine.
Goodyn Green gets a lot of her inspiration from the queer scene in Berlin, and it´s also mostly there she finds her models. Currently she is working on a project with nude photos of queer women inspired by gay magazine poses.
